Secretary Shelia Ottman: No minutes were taken in December. The December meeting was the Christmas Party. The November minutes are posted on the Chapter website. The group elected not to have them read as part of the meeting.
Treasurer Don Kaiser: The Chapter is financially sound. Donations were recently made to the following charities: Star Family Foundation, Camp Hope, & Ozark Food Pantry.
New Business
On February 12th, the Chapter will have a Valentine Potluck Dinner. Brenda has reserved the Old Band Building (behind the Police Department in Festus). The Chapter will have the building from 5:00pm to 10:00pm. The rental cost is $50. It was decided that everyone who attends will pay $5 per person/$10 per couple. Any money collected above the rental cost will be donated to the Chapter Treasury. Kathy suggested that we do a "soup & salad" potluck. The Chapter will provide the coffee pot, coffee, creamer, sugar/sweetner and paper products.
After dinner activities may include playing games or just visiting. Chapter's 132 & 275 are invited to join us for the evening.
MO State Director, Lee Lash, announced that there will be a Show-me Rally planning meeting for the Chapter Presidents on the last Sunday of the month. The theme for the Show-me Rally is “Beach Party”. He asked the Chapter for help in gathering donations for the silent auction. He asked if anyone had any questions about changes that have been made in the Charter. No questions were posed. He shared information that it has been strongly suggested that the Chapters incorporate.
Cookbooks: Cookbooks were not sold at the last rally because there were not funds available to cover the cost of printing the books. It was suggested that the Chapters send in money to cover the cost of printing. Another suggestion was to take orders prior to printing and use these funds to cover the printing costs. This issue will be discussed at the planning meeting later this month.
Brenda suggested that perhaps some of the money that is donated to other charities might be better spent on things like this, since the proceeds from the sale of cookbooks will go to Feed The Children.
Fisher House: Fergy reported on the meal preparation for Fisher House that was done by Chapter 275. He learned a lot that will help with planning any future volunteer efforts.
Bike Clean Up Day: Kathy offered to host a Bike Clean Up Day & Bar B Q at her house for our April meeting.
Other Business
50/50 Drawing: $60 was collected in the 50/50 drawing. Fergy had the winning ticket, taking home $30. Congratulations to Fergy!

Chapter #437
Festus, MO
February 19, 2011
Meeting Minutes
The February meeting was called to order by President Mike Cruse at
10:35 a.m. on February 19, 2011, at Surdyke Motor Sports in Festus, MO. The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance. The pledge was followed by a discussion to find out how the Chapter felt about a proposed cookbook fundraiser for Feed The Children. The cost to have them printed is $500 which will need to be paid upfront. This would require each of the 4 Missouri Chapters to contribute toward this cost. The expected cost to our Chapter is about $150. To recoup the cost of printing, 50 cookbooks would have to be sold before any money would be raised for FTC. The discussion and opinions shared by the Chapter were that the cookbooks would be difficult to sell and that even if enough were sold to recoup the cost for printing, it would not raise much, if any, money for the charity. The Chapter could potentially be out the cost for the printing and be stuck with unsellable cookbooks. The consensus was that Chapter 437 does not want to participate in the cookbook fundraiser. A proposal was made that the Chapter donate $150 to FTC. The decision to do so was unanimous.
Aluminum cans: Mike donated $10 to the Chapter that he received for recycling aluminum cans. He asked everyone to save their aluminum cans and bring them to the meetings. He will recycle them with the proceeds going to the chapter.
Donation Letters: Letters were passed out to the members for them to present when asking for donations for the Rally. Flyers for the Rally can be printed out from the Chapter 132 website.
Niehaus: After the meeting, some members have planned to go to Litchfield, IL to attend the “Hot Winter Nights” event in support of Chapter 110.
Report of Officers
Vice President Kathy Boone: Kathy said we will be very pleased with the Double Tree Hotel for the Rally, June 3-5. It is a very nice facility. We will be doing the ice cream social again this year. If you bring canned goods to the Rally, you can earn up to 5 extra tickets for the Chinese auction (silent auction). Try to get as many donations as possible for the Rally.
Sergeant of Arms Dennis Ottman: Nothing to report at this time.
Vet Rep Dave Boone: Freedom of Road Riders are having their 25th Blessing of the Bikes on April 17 at noon at the Springdale Bar & Grill in Fenton, MO.
Kathy will check into the Blessing of the Bikes at the Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
The April meeting will be at Dave & Kathy’s. There will be a presentation from Air Evac that day in addition to the barbeque and bike cleaning.
Be looking for fleece blankets, preferably in red, white, & blue. These are for the Veteran’s home where Brenda’s dad is.
LOS Rep Peggy Cruse: Birthdays this month were Becky Allen on the 19th, and Mike Cruse on the 16th. No anniversaries. Georgia and Ed signed up for the snacks for the next meeting.
Marble run: Do we want to have a Marble Run this year? The Chapter decided not to have its own Marble Run this year, but will help Surdyke with a Marble Run should they decide to have one. The group discussed and decided to help Surdyke with their appreciation days event.
Rick asked if we would be willing to help Chapter 132 with their Marble Run. Chapter 437 agreed that we would help them. Chapter 132 is sponsoring Hot Winter Nights at Big St. Charles Motor Sports this Friday night, February 25, 2011. Rick invited us to attend.
Brenda mentioned that some groups sell advertisement space in their newsletters and post on their websites to raise money.
Bob suggested that we might want to consider having a Sponsor Day. He has been in other groups that set aside 1 day to visit all their sponsors.
The next meeting will be from 1-5 pm on March 20, 2011 at the old Band Building. It will be a St. Patrick ’s Day theme with a corned beef and cabbage cook off. $10 per couple.
Tin Stars Rep Bob Scott: Nothing to report at this time.
Secretary Shelia Ottman: January Minutes are available and posted on the website. The group chose not to have them read.
Treasurer Don Kaiser: We will have $464 in the treasury after paying Brenda back for renting the hall.
Old Business
The money raised on the afghan raffle has been sent in to the Wounded Warriors. We asked for one of their blankets.
New Business
The Chapter Christmas Party is scheduled for December 4 from 1-5 at the Old Band Building in Festus.
Niehaus Appreciation Days in Litchfield IL will be May 13, 14, & 15. For anyone planning to attend, the group will meet in Collinsville at the Auto Museum Saturday morning and then head to Niehaus.
Peggy went through the prizes left from our Marble Run. Some of the coupons were expired.
We need to be thinking about having some dinner rides and where we might want to eat. Don Mullins suggested the Catfish Kettle in Farmington. They have good food and it is all you can eat.
Other Business
